about me

Welcome to my website

That’s me standing on the lower limb.

Nature is an important source of inspiration to me, and I attribute it to living in the beautiful state of Michigan along with the traveling I’ve done. Growing up, each summer we took trips camping for weeks at a time. We’d either be on Grand Traverse Bay or driving across North America. It’s the memories and experiences from those years that first shaped me as an artist.

That’s me again, leaning up against the car

I went to college for a BFA, studying drawing and watercolor painting. I became an art teacher earning a Masters in Art Education and over the years I have taught art to people of all ages, from children to adults. Now, I am Yia-Yia to four amazing grandchildren. Time with my family, traveling and focusing my creative energies on Japanese woodblock printmaking is what I enjoy most.

For me, mokuhanga is the most satisfying way to capture the things I see and feel. It is my way of recording the beauty and strength of nature and communicating my understanding of what surrounds us. I find each step of the process enjoyable, and it has led me on a wonderful journey.

Always a student, I continue to take classes and be inspired by the shapes, colors and textures of landscapes. Mokuhanga lends itself beautifully to this subject matter. The subtle hues and suggestive style of the medium reveal the spirit of the location. This is what I love. For me, a landscape artist, it is a joy to create what I am drawn to using a process that embodies so much of what I admire.

I hope you will take some time to explore my website. My goal is to share what I’ve learned and hopefully inspire others to pick up a hangi-to and start carving.

Happy travels.
